Committed to flying you to new worlds through creating theatre that engages the mind, captivates the imagination, and provokes conversation.

Direct Flight Theatre is a professional not-for-profit theatre company founded in 2009 by husband and wife team, Amber Mills and Michael Rode. The theatre company began as a dream to create opportunities to work together, in our home, Toronto.

As we poured over scripts for our first production, we continued to return to Adam's Pettle's first play, Therac 25. Pettle's script was the perfect launching pad for the kind of work we wanted to produce.

Our first project had resonance for us simply as an opportunity to work on a great script together, and achieved a deeper meaning for our company as we decided to donate all our profits to the cancer research charity, Rebecca's Hope. Rebecca's Hope is a charity we are personally connected to, as it was founded by the mother of our friend and colleague, Phil Borg, in honour of his late sister Rebecca. Through our production we hoped to introduce supporters of Rebecca's Hope to Toronto's vibrant independent theatre scene, and introduce the Toronto theatre community to Rebecca's Hope.

Moving forward, Direct Flight Theatre is finding ways to connect with more diverse audiences. In the fall of 2010 we will be teaming up with GromKat Productions to bring THE TWELFTH NIGHT CO-OP production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to The Gladstone Hotel on Queen West. GromKat Productions is run by our dear friend, Kat Lanteigne, and in coming together to make this next production a reality we are embracing the notion that in the Toronto theatre community we are stronger united. Our partnership with GromKat will allow us to reach more people from more walks of life and help to fulfill our mission of flying them to new worlds.
